Our Story

Horavita began in the winter of 2018, when master watchmaker Chen Wei-Ming opened a modest repair workshop in Xinyi District. Having apprenticed in Switzerland and Japan over two decades, he returned to Taipei with a vision to establish a service atelier where mechanical watches would receive the meticulous attention they deserve. The name Horavita combines the Latin "hora" (hour) with "vita" (life), reflecting our belief that fine timepieces are living instruments requiring skilled care to maintain their vitality.

Our philosophy centers on preservation rather than replacement. Each watch that enters our workshop is treated as an heirloom worthy of respect. We believe in transparent communication with our clients, providing detailed assessments and realistic timelines rather than making promises we cannot fulfill. This approach has earned the trust of collectors, enthusiasts, and everyday watch owners across Taiwan.

What sets Horavita apart is our commitment to continuous learning. The horological world evolves constantly, and we invest in training, specialized tools, and relationships with parts suppliers to ensure we can service both vintage movements and contemporary complications. Our team attends workshops in Switzerland and maintains correspondence with fellow watchmakers worldwide, fostering a network of knowledge that benefits every client who entrusts us with their timepiece.

Today, Horavita serves as more than a repair workshop. We have become a gathering place for those who appreciate mechanical watches, offering consultation on collecting, maintenance education, and preservation services that extend the life of cherished timepieces for generations to come. Our mission remains unchanged: to honor the artistry of watchmaking through skilled, honest, and patient service.

Values That Drive Excellence

Mechanical watches represent more than timekeeping devices. They embody centuries of refined craftsmanship, engineering ingenuity, and artistic expression compressed into miniature mechanisms that continue functioning through patient maintenance. At Horavita, we recognize this heritage and approach each service with reverence for the watchmakers who created these movements, whether they worked in Swiss valleys during the 1950s or contemporary ateliers producing modern complications.

Our expertise spans both traditional hand-wound calibers and sophisticated automatic movements featuring chronographs, perpetual calendars, moon phases, and tourbillon escapements. We have serviced pieces ranging from vintage pocket watches inherited across generations to contemporary haute horlogerie timepieces representing significant investments. Each category demands different knowledge, tools, and techniques, which our team has cultivated through years of focused practice and continuous study.

Transparency guides every client interaction. When you bring a watch to Horavita, we provide an honest assessment of its condition, realistic expectations about restoration possibilities, and clear explanations of costs before commencing work. If a particular repair exceeds our capabilities or requires manufacturer intervention, we will recommend appropriate alternatives rather than proceeding with suboptimal solutions. This honesty has established trust within Taiwan's watch collecting community and beyond.

The watchmaking profession requires patience, steady hands, keen eyesight, and deep technical knowledge. Our horologists combine these qualities with genuine passion for mechanical timepieces. They understand that each watch carries personal significance for its owner, whether it marks an achievement, commemorates a relationship, or simply provides daily companionship. This emotional dimension informs how we handle every piece that enters our workspace.

Horavita maintains relationships with component suppliers across Switzerland, Germany, and Japan, ensuring access to genuine parts when restoration requires replacement rather than repair. We stock common service items like mainsprings, gaskets, and crystal replacements while maintaining contacts for specialized components needed for particular movements. This network allows us to source authentic materials rather than relying on aftermarket alternatives that might compromise long-term performance.

Education forms another cornerstone of our mission. We believe watch owners benefit from understanding their timepieces better, which leads to more informed decisions about maintenance timing, handling practices, and realistic performance expectations. Through consultations, we explain how mechanical movements function, what maintenance intervals make sense for different usage patterns, and how environmental factors influence timekeeping accuracy. This knowledge empowers clients to become better stewards of their watches.
